Two wildcards have already been awarded for the first tournament in Runggaditsch: Laura Mair (22 years old / WTA 584) receives a spot in the main draw, while Lisa Peer, who recently won her first main-draw match at a $15,000 ITF tournament in Sicily, will compete in the qualifying rounds. Both players train regularly in the valley, symbolizing the close collaboration between the two organizing clubs – TC Urtijei and TC Gherdeina. The remaining wildcards will be assigned by the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP), which in return covers the tournament’s prize money.

The organizers of TC Urtijei, led by the coordinator of the organizing committee, Martina Moser, pushed through 16 matches. The players were on court from 9 a.m. until after midnight. No South Tyrolean competed in singles—but that will change tomorrow.
