Main draw: Seppi against Hanfmann on Tuesday

Andreas Seppi will play his last tournament as a professional at the Sparkasse Challenger Val Gardena Südtirol on Tuesday evening against the number 4 seed Yannick Hanfmann from Germany. This was the result of the draw on Saturday. Seppi will end his great career, which has brought him up to 18th place in the world rankings, at the € 45,730 tournament in Ortisei next week. From May 2005 onwards, he was in the top 100 of the world rankings for more than 15 years. He has won 3 ATP tournaments and played 67 Grand Slam tournaments. Seppi lost the only duel against Hanfmann at the Challenger five years ago in Bergamo with 4:6, 2:6. 

The number 1 player at the 13th edition of the Challenger in Gardena-Gröden next week will be the Czech Tomas Machac, currently number 112 in the world. Machac will play a qualifier in the 1st round. Number 2 is the Chilean Nicolas Jarry (ATP 112), who was already ranked 38th in the world three years ago. Luca Nardi (ATP 130) from Italy, who has received one of the three wild cards for the main draw, will also play a qualifier in the opening round. A total of 12 players from Italy are already in the main draw before qualifying. 

In the qualifiers, 24 players, a total of six Azzurri, will play for six places in the main draw on Sunday from 10 am and on Monday, including the four South Tyroleans Patric Prinoth, Gabriel Moroder, Jonas Greif and Nicola Rispoli, who have received a wild card from the organisers. Benjamin Hassan is seeded number 1 in the qualification, currently ranked 299 in the world.
